Poems
By Karen Thomas
Why?
Why do people put mirrors on the wall –
So that they may see their true self –
Their soul.
Do they like what they see?
Please don’t ask me.
The disdain draws across their face,
The question they ask –
Why me?
What could people see in me?
My beauty or personality?
My ugliness becomes greater by the minute.
It would take an exceptional man
To look at me twice for the right reasons –
Love, respect and for who I am –
Not for being lived in.
Beauty may be only skin deep,
But it matters to me.
Suffocation
Tears of thought and memory
Hit the ground of depression
Breathlessness of emotion
Impaling hurt eternally
Unable to tell the world the truth inside.
